Attention Race Fans...
Saturday at Mark Smith's raceway in Port Haywood, Virginia, saw the MASCAR club come together for a day of fun races, great eating, and even some club business. We were extremely fortunate to have my teammate from this years Fray, Henry Harnish, in the house. To make the trek all the way to Virginia from Northern New Jersey was quite an honor for our little race group. First up was the trophy presentations to the top six T-Jet racers and the top six magnet racers, after this season's nine months of racing. The first race was the traditional T-Jet Fray/VHORS cars, along with JL/AW thrown in the mix. This is a popular class at the now defunct Slot Chaos commercial raceway. Most racers at the sharp end of the grid, went with traditional BeachJet setups. The A Main was a battle like most races all season, it went back and forth through the heats and in the end the winner had a 1 section lead over second place.

The meeting after the first race, led to Jeff Crabtree remaining in office as president for another term. His successful shepherding of the sometimes fractious group through nine months of racing, led to his landslide re-election. It was decided to change the points structure next year, to make the overall points count more than qualifying. Also the championship next year will combine both classes into an overall classification, that will be preeminent over the class championships in BeachJet and Super Stock/Modifieds. Race times and scheduling was also discussed.

The magnet class was for the Wizzard Patriot Cup cars on Mark's high speed banked track. The A Main there, included all the fast magnet guys present and that race was also a super close race. Less than a lap separated the top two, after 14 minutes of racing.

Mark and Sandy Smith put on a big spread for lunch with huge subs and fixins , and then for dinner Mark did the BBQ thing on his Ferrari type gas grill...cooking more burgers and dogs than even big eaters in MASCAR could handle. Mark and Sandy really know how to put on a race and bring some Summer Fun to racers suffering from two months of slot racing down time.

Full results and pix of all the racers, their cars and trophies are on the race report:

Next race will be in September and a new season of combined T-Jet and magnet racing in the Old Dominion. Stay tuned for the details....

Best Racing,
Tom
