5th Annual Snowball 500 Preview

The 2004 edition of the Snowball 500 is shaping up to be the most competitive in the history of Pocket Rocket Raceway's premier event. Dave Hendrickson will attempt to become only the second person to have a season sweep of the major Fray races at PRR. Hendrickson has enjoyed dominating wins in the Freezin' 250, Spring Is In 250, and Turkey 250, winning by an average of 8 laps. Other highlights from Hendrickson's 2004 include a 3rd place at the East Coast Championships, 4th at the UFHORA Nationals and 4 consecutive Fray points titles in PRR's Friday Night Racing Series. Hendrickson's biggest obstacle will be the only person to have had a season sweep at PRR, Frank Spena Jr., who will be trying to extend a couple of streaks of his own. While his racing schedule has been very limited in 2004, when he has raced in the class he has been unbeaten. Foremost among his 2004 accomplishments are 1st place in the T-Jet races at the East Coast Championships and the UFHORA National Championships. Additionally Spena will be trying to win his 5th straight Snowball 500 and remain the only person to win the event. Mark Webster will most likely be the other heavy hitter. Webster was the big surprise in the Turkey 250, finishing a strong 2nd to Hendrickson. He could only manage 13th in last year's Snowball but he has clearly shown that he has a shot at the win this time around.

Outside of those three there are others who also have a strong shot at winning. Legendary HO racer and innovator Tom Bowman, widely credited with being the first to introduce the magnetic slot car, has filed entry and plans to make the trip from Virginia Beach, VA, to his third straight Snowball 500. Bowman, whose company, BRP, produces the bodies that have won more Fray races at PRR than any other, could only manage 10th in 2003. He has returned to his winning ways in 2004 with several wins in his home area of the Mid-Atlantic states and scored a fine 7th at the UFHORA Nationals. Ryan Hendrickson is following in his father's foot steps and has been improving throughout the year. The younger Hendrickson recently defeated his father two consecutive weeks in PRR's Friday Night Racing Series. Additionally he is coming off a third place finish at the Turkey 250 and scored 8th and "Rookie of the Year" in the UFHORA Nationals T-Jet race. Mark Burdick has struggled with his car set up recently, but his driving has been as fine as ever. If he finds the right formula he could go right to the front. Jeff "Hoss" Phoenix has made more Fray Major finals at PRR than any other and can never be counted out. His 2004 season has included a 2nd at the East Coast Championships and 9th at the UFHORA Nationals.

PRR's Friday Night HO Racing Series runs every Friday evening with races beginning at 7 PM. Current classes are Fray T-Jet and Narrow T-Jet, (house rules.) Call or e-mail for rules. Series begins 12/3/04.

PRR's Saturday Night 1/32 Racing Series runs Saturday evening with races beginning at 5 PM. Next race will be 12/4/04. Current classes are World Endurance Championship, (WEC,) and Carrera 1/24 Le Mans. Call or e-mail for rules.
